Election Day

You already know what I'm going to ask...did you vote?

Did I vote? Yes.

The United States of America was born in 1776.

In 1870 American men regardless of color were granted the right to vote with the 15th Amendment.

In 1920 American women were granted the right to vote with the 19th Amendment.

144 years passed before American men and women regardless of race could vote. Yes, that doesn't mean people were able to vote right after those Amendments, the country still had issues but that's a topic for another blog post...on another day... By 1920, we'd gone through our Revolutionary War, The War of 1812, The Civil War, World War I and plenty of other conflicts. So much happened to our country between 1776-1920. Men and women fought for our rights, for their rights. They fought and defended their home, our homes. So much more has happened from 1920 to today. November 8th 2016.

If you don't vote and you are able to vote but just choose not to vote that is your choice. I'm no one to belittle you or judge you for your choice. People fought for our country to give us our rights. You have the power to choose between voting and not voting. Embrace it. Be thankful.

What I do ask is that you at least acknowledge how lucky we are to live in a country where we can choose to vote or not vote. I'm not political at all. I don't pretend to be. But I can appreciate history and what it has taught us. This election has brought out the worst in so many people including the two main candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

If you're voting please take the time to look at the facts, look at the unbiased information. It's out there. Look for it. Don't just vote because "haha she's a girl"  or "haha at least he's not a politician." I mean, you thankfully have the right to do that if you choose. But at least think about it because this is our home. America shouldn't be made up of Republicans and Democrats, liberals and conservatives. It's fine if you're a liberal. It's fine if you're a conservative. But stop letting it divide us. It's perfectly fine to be passionate about what you believe in and follow. But we are soo much more than just a "Republican, Democrat."

That's just one adjective that can be used to describe us, however at least for me, it is not the only adjective that makes up who I am. I am me. I'm an American. I refuse to let hatred and fear of others spread.

There's a lot of ugly in this country and hate and fear being spread from both sides. Stop with the stereotyping. I know people that are voting for Trump and I know they're good people. They're certainly not racist. They've never once been rude to me and I'm Hispanic. I know people that are voting for Clinton and they're good people. They're certainly not stupid and following the media in voting just because she's a woman. They're educated.

Vote for who you think is the better choice that aligns with your values. That's fine.  You shouldn't have to jeopardize your integrity. But just go out and vote. And don't look down on others for voting for someone you don't like. If you don't like Clinton or Trump that's perfectly fine. But don't be rude to others that don't agree with you.

We should be able to talk politics and explain what we believe in without hating the person who opposes us.

At the end of the day remember you are not Trump or Clinton. The average American won't come into contact with them. So why alienate the people in YOUR life for someone who doesn't even know you voted for them.

We are Americans. This is our home. Protect it by voting for the choice you think can benefit our country the most.

There's so many good things in America. And it starts with us, the people. There's a lot of hate and fear but guess what? There's also a lot of love and understanding.

Who you vote for should be because of what you think not what others are trying to get you do think. It's a personal choice that we've been blessed with having. Even if you don't like the person that ends up becoming POTUS at least do your history homework and understand that they are ONE person and Checks and Balances do exist.

The whole world will be watching tonight to see who becomes our next President. Whatever the outcome take a moment to appreciate the fact that a man with no political experience and a women are the two main candidates. Kids grow up with the idea of anyone can become President when they grow up.

I've always understood what they mean by that and I appreciate it to an extent. If you work hard and believe you can achieve whatever goal you set your mind to.

It's not about anyone can be President, it's that a President of the United States can come from anywhere. We're breaking free and allowing others the chance to achieve that goal. JFK was a Catholic President. That was a huge deal back then. President Obama went down as the First African-American President. Our next President whoever it may be will at least continue that trend of being different from all the rest.

If you think about it, there's a little kid out there in the country. Guy or girl. They don't really know what's going on but they're seeing the adults in their lives talking about this election. History is being made. That little kid will grow up and years from now they will be President of the United States.

This is our country. This is our home. It's the home I love and I'm proud of it. No, it is not perfect and there's plenty of things that need to be fixed. But that's the thing isn't it? We can fix it. We have the chance to fix it. Together. We the People of the United States can improve our home.
